Crude violence in Videogames

I’m a videogame lover I love playing videogames and interacting with online players, playing videogames is entertaining and doesn’t have any explicit reason behind it but to entertain the player with a variety of different tools and methods. For example good graphics and controller’s game play are ideal characteristics for game. Violence in videogames is quite seen; in now days 9 games out of 10 have explicit violence. Lately violence in video games is not the only concern, now there are videogames that include drugs, prostitution, torture, a lot of blood, and not the least swearing all the time.
My post shows a list of 10 videogames that are truly controversial, in terms of violence, the content in this videogames is absurd and there is no apparent reason behind the amount of violence used by the player to achieve the end of the game.

Do you think that any of these games should be produced?

Are those video games insanely violent for your tastes?

What would you do if one of your friends, relatives, family plays those games?

Can you think of one effect that such games have on the players?

Those are just hints of what you might say or discuss I would want to hear your free opinion on this as well ;-)

  1. These types of games are fun and entertaining, and I think more games like these should be made. They offer a thrill to the player, and the excessive violence in these games is what makes them fun. I wouldn’t want to play a videogame which wasn’t violent, and was insanely realistic because there is no way that game would be fun.

The violence in these video games is insane, very insane. I think that’s what makes them so fun. Some people might not be able to handle the excessive violence in these games, and they should avoid them. But, for people who want a crazy amount of action, these games are perfect.

Whether, my relatives, or friends play these video games wouldn’t affect me or my opinion about them. The fact that they play these games means nothing to me.

These games can have different effects on different types of people. For some people it might make them more violent, but for others, it might be relaxing to unleash their stress through a game. But, I don’t blame these games or their developers for making people more violent, because the violence in these games is extremely excessive, and very unreal. It would be difficult to relate the violence in the video games back to reality.

  2. Ergyn has raised a very important issue. Kids are becoming increasingly desensitized as a result to their over-exposure to the violence in video games. Video games have a negative effect on children. If I remember correctly, the massacre at Columbine involved two teenagers who were influenced by violent video games. Also, video games appear to be increasingly more violent. When I was younger, I remember playing games like Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. Now, kids are always playing first person shooters like Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto. Also, video game ratings are irrelevant in my opinion. Underage children always find a way to get the latest violent video games.

  3. These games should be produced, but not on an extensive scale. To be quite honest, I find them extremely fun. I am not a gamer, but I do play violent video games such as FarCry 2, Halo 3, and SplinterCellDoubleAgent. I take to such video games during free time, so I do not think they should stop producing them. There is a limit for everything and it should not be crossed. You can play sometimes for a while, but not 24X7.

Some games are "insanely violent", but I omit such games myself when I feel the need to play video games. You have to be a master of yourself and you have to know what is right and wrong for you.

I would not do anything, if my friends or relatives play such games meaning stopping them from playing, if that is what you mean. On the other hand, I would play with them as "mutiplayer" is better for such games. We would not go outside and behave violently just because we play such games. A person has to be in his senses and know that video games are for entertainment; to relieve stress in some cases and actually for motivation as well. If a person is motivated in a wrong sense, then he should be punished. Ceasing to produce such video games is not the ideal solution.

  4. I think violence in general has been more acceptable in the media in recent years (300/Saw series). I also think that at the appropriate age, people realize that media that is made for entertainment purposes is fake and a guy isn't really getting decapitated. However, for young children the violence portrayed may have the effect of making them more open to violence at a younger age.

I've played a wide range of video games that include violence and I think that the violence is just there for a “wow” factor. For example, in ‘Mortal Kombat’ they excessively take violence to a whole other level, but it does serve it’s purpose of shocking the viewers. In ‘Gears of War’, a chainsaw is one of many weapons that the user can use to rip apart other people’s body.

As long as viewers are able to distinguish the difference between a game and reality, I do not think it causes a person to become violent or de-sensitized. I have seen many fake decapitations in movies and in video games, however if I see a decapitation that is real or closely resembles one, I feel devastated. Anything with violence in reality sort of shocks me, like there is a video on youtube that shows Neda Agha-Soltan being shot and killed in Tehran during a protest. The video shows her in a pool of blood, not decapitated or anything that is excessively violent, however just the fact that it is real is what shocks and saddens me about it.
